Bone Cement Implantation syndrome (BCIS) is an important cause of mortality and morbidity in patients undergoing cement implantation.

There are three grades of BCIS

  • Grade 1: moderate hypotension or hypoxia
  • Grade 2: severe hypotension or hypoxia or unexpected LOC
  • Grade 3: cardiovascular collapse requiring CPR
