Complications of bone cement are important for all surgeons involved in bone cement application.
Here are 6 of them
- Transitory fall in BP
- Thrombophlebitis
- Superficial or deep wound infection
- Heterotrophic bone formation
- Bursitis
- Bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS)

The immediate or intra-operative complications are transitory fall in BP and BCIS.
The early complications are thrombophlebitis and superficial/deep infection
The late complications are bursitis and heterotrophic bone formation
Besides, local osteonecrosis (due to exothermic reaction) and aseptic loosening may also occur due to bone cement application
